Founded in 1989, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a not-for-profit organization that designs innovative programs to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields to young people. Through competitions and challenges that push students to work hard and dream big, robotics and other FIRST programs help to create a culture where science and technology are celebrated.
The P-TECH team was formed early on in the life of the school, and it is an integral piece of our efforts to engage students in all aspects of technology and engineering. It also has proven results: a recent study
at Brandeis University found that participants in FIRST Robotics Competitions are more than 35% more likely than their peers to attend college and three times as likely to major in engineering.
The tagline for FIRST in New York/New Jersey
is "Discovering the genius in every kid." We are proud to be a part of this great organization. It's just another step in discovering the genius in all of our students.
